FYI: Second Annual Forge Cleanup Will Begin Soon

Post by calguy1000 »

Hello All.
NOTICE OF FAIR WARNING
Because everybody hates downloading modules from the forge that are outdated, or are no longer supported by their author, we will once again be doing a forge cleanup, starting about the mid of August.

Due to the availability of dev team members, and the size of the task we cannot say exactly when this project will begin (other than roughly mid August 2012), finish or which projects will be deleted however here are the criteria:

Projects must be 'stale' in the forge. AND
Projects must not have had any commits or releases within 24 months

So project owners or admins must at the very least go into the forge and mark their projects as 'NOT STALE'.

If there is a project that you know works with the latest released version of CMSMS (and preferably, but not necessarily CMSMS 1.11) but has not had any love lately, I suggest you get in touch with the module author to make sure that it is at least 'touched'.

When the dev team undertakes this task, we will generate a report of stale projects. Then we will divide this list, and tackle them. When investigating a project, before deletion we will confirm that the project still meets the criteria specified above. If so, it can and will be deleted.

The dev team will not 'save' a project that somebody reports as 'works for me' but meets the criteria for deletion. Neither will we restore a project from backup days after the project has been deleted (unless it was a grievous accident). So please, now is the time to touch your projects, or get in touch with the authors of your favorite modules or plugins to make sure that the project does not get deleted.
