Are you sure the names of the thumbnails and the bigger pictures are exactly alike? My error in this was that the thumbnails had the extention .JPG while the bigger pictures had the extention .jpg. If I delete the folder, I still see on CMSMailer:

Installed
Has Dependents (FeedbackForm,FormBuilder)
Cannot Remove

But FormFeedBack is gone from the modules, that's true, but it's not properly uninstalled. It leaves some garbage in the system.

I've added some more of my findings to your Q&A post. I am a programmer myself (though rarely have the free time to do so), so I guess I could've solved this one on my own

I found another solution, which, ultimately, didn't solve the problem, so I just went ahead and deleted the check. After installation I could check the correct permission.

I see... delete the line that checks for permissions....

if (! $this->CheckAccess()) exit;

This IS a solution, but I'm not sure if it is the correct one...
