Most times I create a subfolder to do testing/upgrading, thesite.com/dev

Copy all folder/files into the subfolder, export the DB, create a new empty DB, import DB, change the config.php to use new DB, make changes/upgrades to new subfolder site...

I've had this type of problem before and what I do if I can get into the DB is change the email of the admin to mine, go to the log in and hit forgot password to get a link to redo it, change password, log in and there you go...

Seems to work better than trying to change the password in the DB...

Do you have an htaccess file in your root or use one in your subfolder..?

Some host don't like email sent from their servers that aren't set up on their servers, such as a gmail account email being sent from simonmets.com...

I don't know QNAP but if it installs 1.12.2 then you should be able to install the latest by following these steps...

Please explain exactly what happens when you try to log in to admin...

Did you go into the server side file manager and clear the tmp/cache and tmp/templates_c folders..?

You can separate them using categories, other wise you will have to rework cgblog into another module and have to do it for every upgrade of the module...
