Did you check the "Use wysiwyg on front end" I forget if it is the site admin section or in tinyMCE admin...

Copy/paste the templates and stylesheets, copy/move any folders it needs, make any changes to hard coded paths if needed...

Do you haves pages with children..?

Does the menu tag in the tag in the template say number_of_levels='1'..?

Are you using a drop down menu stylesheet..?

You maybe should have looked at the change logs/release notes...

You may need to look at the default templates as they may have changed some of the syntax for certain calls...

Look in your form template or the page template or in the pages content box where you added the form tag, use the html button in page content...

Where would these non canonical URLs be coming from, certainly not from a search engine as all they do is index the links on a web site, now if you are getting bad links from search engines then I would worry about a 404 page... Anybody can type URLs that lead nowhere or add nonsense to an existing ...

Are the News titles going to be the actual name of the page, if so you can make a custom news template that uses the 'title' in a link that goes to that page, if the pages are created first, or use a new field in news to make the link...

I can think of a few ways to do this...

Try setting it to sendmail, no passwords needed etc. and use an email from the domain itself such as info @ site.com just make sure it is a real one which seems to work best for me in all sites I've set up...
