Re: Module Ratings and Appraisals - Opinions Sought
tyman, Just not an easy black and white job, unfortunately I think this sums it up, it's needed and it would be a great feature - but if it's wrong it would be worse than the 'no ratings' status quo .. I'm not giving up, just going to think about it harder and longer. Starting now to wonder if som...

Re: Module Ratings and Appraisals - Opinions Sought
Hi tyman, That's an excellent post, I've really had a change of heart about the ratings add-on. You put that so succinctly that I'm wondiering how I didn't see this problem in the first place, especially given the wide diversity of the rating criteria... I'm officialy holding on doing any further d...

Re: Module Ratings and Appraisals - Opinions Sought
Hi calguy, Sorry to hear that you're very tired of the discussion; we're just trying to improve the end user experience. It almost seems like you feel that we are judging the developer on their output - this is by no means what this intends to do. I want a tool that mitigates the negative experienc...

Re: Module Ratings and Appraisals - Opinions Sought
Privet Sonya, the moduledeveloper must check in the module into the translation center. The modules are not into the translation center per se. That's why I think the moduledeveloper must take care of that The language support is slightly off topic here, but it has been noted that it is a factor.

Re: Module Ratings and Appraisals - Opinions Sought
Some objective criterias: ----------------------------------------------- 1. Quality of code . Enable $config['debug'] and see if and how much warnings are shown. Too much warnings means the code is not clean enough. The developer does not debug his code. It might be buggy and inefficient. 2. Bug r...

Re: A project to test-install, provide descriptions of, and list all modules
Hi all, I'm in the midst of putting an extension to CMSMS together which will allow for people to assess each module they have installed on their system. Currently, it's implemented as an extra column after the "Export As XML" feature in the Modules , once clicked it presents a window whi...

Re: Module Ratings and Appraisals - Opinions Sought
Thanks,
It starting to strike me that two levels of appraisal may be needed.
1. From a user perspective
2. From a developer perspective.
SjG has offered to implment the forge / data storage side of things

Re: Module Ratings and Appraisals - Opinions Sought
Hi,
That's a good point, how about if once a new version of the module is installed, a vote can be cast again.
This way the vote is always a combination of: by domain, by module, by version

Module Ratings and Appraisals - Opinions Sought
Hi, A discussion started on the IRC channel last week concerning the standard of modules and the possibility of having community based peer reviews of each module. I have started to develop an extension to the core and some additions to ModuleManager which will allow the administrator of each site ...

Language File Entry = $lang['utmz'] = [.]/admin/[.]
Hi, I was about to change the admin_dir setting, and to be sure to be sure to be sure I did a quick scan to make sure that no code.module had hard referenced /admin/ I found many of these: $lang['utmz'] = '156861353.1235854022.19.6.utmccn=(referral)|utmcsr=miditower|utmcct=/cms/admin/listmodules.php...

Database Locking - multiple simultaneous users
Hi, I'm putting a system together which may have run into concurrent editing issues - there is no talk of this in the fourms. I am no DB expert, but I see that mysql does provide precedence for operations - is CMSMS safe as is for this kind of task?
