I used LDAP in a custom site before (not CMSMS) and it was really quite easy. There are some very good libraries available which just give you a username and that's all you really need to know to integrate it.

Don't have the time to help you with a CMSMS module though sorry.

Well it seems there must have been an incompatibility or bug with the PHP 5.2.0 release. We have upgraded the server to 5.2.6 and everything is back to normal. This was a pretty nasty bug as it was brining down the whole server because of the massive cpu load.
