I'm kind of in the same boat, but the site I am dealing with was unable (ineligible?) to use online payment. I ran into an issue with CMS mailer when I upgraded to 1.8.2 The mailer stopped working while set on SMTP and using Formbuilder. With a bit of searching I found someone having a problem with a different module but the same error message. His workaround was to switch CMSmailer from SMTP to mail.

I think if you read through the Gallery module's help section it describes how to do this. I'm pretty sure trying to make a second install of the module won't help your situation.

I have this same issue, did setting the memory limit resolve the issue or not?  Thanks,
