CMS Made Simple Forums

are the blog module and forum module that are available with CMSMS customizable?

Very new to CMSMS - still trying to decide between this and Wordpress. I'm building a site that will need a blog and forum. How customizable are both these modules? Instead of the forum module could I incorporate something like SMF into CMSMS?

I have a site that I would like to change over to CMSMS. The site has side menus on the left that vary based on the category.
