I actually used mailto:myemailaddy@gmail.com , it works fine.

Sorry to bump such an old thread, but this was the closest to my issue in a search. So, i set the new page to external link and target _blank, input the url in the box and apply, when i click the link in the site menu it takes me to http://mydomain.com/theexternallink.com,[b] not[/b] to http://theex...
