Suggestion for user documentation

Post by Glenn »

I can't believe how CMSMS just keeps getting better. Finally, a lot of bugs (but not all) with FCKEditor are fixed and it just rocks! Each time a new version comes out I use it for my next client's site (been using it since 0.8). Here's the thing:

The default content and templates that come out with each new version are REALLY helpful. In fact, from what I can tell, it's the only place I can really learn about, and how to use, all the new features (I know there is documentation on the CMSMS site, but it is never as good or fresh as what comes with the installation). Great work! However, once I've look it all over I deleta all that content in order to populate the db with my client's content. But often I want to go back to the default content (user documentation) to read about something that i forgot, however the content is gone.

So my suggestion is to have a default installation of the latest version online so that at anytime users can go to it to read the documentation.

Does this already exist and I just don't know about it?

BTW, FWIW...Ted and Patricia are Gods! PS(Why is there a smiley above where I typed the numeral 8?)

Seems like a good idea.  Though, I'm just anxious to get the documentation project further along so that it's not necessary to do something like that.

Thanks for the kind words, though.  :)

Perhaps it would be possible to make a new subdomain like default.cmsmadesimple.org. If you use Katons CMSms multilang the default documentation can be shown in more than one language (german translation of default content is 50 % ready).

And this is why my tag line is "Sometimes I feel like an idoiot..."

I see there IS a demo site with default content online (if only I had looked a little further) here:

http://www.cmsmadesimple.org/demo.shtml

However, it is not 0.12. But it's pretty close. Maybe this just needs to be updated with each realease.

What have you seen ? I got this on frontpage and admin:
The requested URL /cms/ was not found on this server.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

They must've been in the middle of upgrading it, because it's now running 0.12.  Great.
