I recently upgraded a friend's site from 1.8.2 to 1.10.3. The site appears to be working, but my friend tried to add a new folder via the ImageManager, and it said "Invalid characters were detected in directory name". I did some testing, and it seems to be spaces that are causing it problems.

Is there a list somewhere of what the valid characters are for the ImageManager folders? And why did it used to allow spaces and now doesn't? Many of her previous folders have spaces in them. If there is a setting somewhere that I can change, I would love to do that.

Try using File Manager instead...

Ok, that works! Great! So... Is there a way to disable "ImageManager" so my friend won't accidentally try to use it and then e-mail me with a problem again?

Not that I know of...
