Sorry folks but I have a real problem here.

I am dealing with a potential CMSMS user who has a committee on his back! I have told him about CMSMS and, after consulting colleagues, he writes:

<quote>
One of the committee has been to CMSMS website and downloaded their latest version 1.10.3, unzipped it and loaded it. The programme which loads is Eversoft First Page 2006. I take it that this is the programme the CMSMS guys have worked with/interfaced with to allow us to easily alter or update our site? If I’m wrong could you please explain the relationship. I need to get this guy on my side.
</quote>

Please, I need a rational answer here. I don't know what the heck he is on about. Does anyone?

Thanks

Martin

You may have a real problem but without any further data on what EXACTLY the committee has downloaded, it is hard to tell what the problem really is. Eversoft First Page 2006 is just an editor. If it is set to open php files on someones pc that is what is going to happen. Double click on any php file and First Page opens it.
Try to get more info on what that someone is actually trying to do. Otherwise I don't think either you, me or anyone else on this forum will be able to figure out the real problem (assuming there is one).

I think you are dealing with people who don't understand a single thing about CMSms.

They probably didn't understand that they need a server. That they have to upload and install the CMSms software on said server and read documentation on how to use it.

You have 2 options:
- Run away from a potential never-ending email conversation about 'how do i do this or that'
- Explain that they need your services, that you'll install the software for them if they hand over the domainname and hosting account information and you will develop/design the best possible website for them. Don't forget to include your hourly wage for your services

;D

(I've changed the title for you, nothing to worry about here)

Thanks for your very supportive posting.

I have now come to that conclusion myself, but a bit late to be honest.

The whole thing is a pain in the neck and I really do think that it is a wind-up. Any more of the same & I will be quite rude!

Thanks again

Martin.

ps what really gets me is that I bend over backwards for clients and friends and this one may the THE one that kicks me where it hurts.

Do you have a contract with them?

Otherwise, run as fast as you can, sorry to put it like that ;)

Experience tells me that from the 2 options in my previous post, this is going to be option #1.
To much people involved from what you said. For these sort of jobs you need one, at most 2 people to think about what you are going to do. Everybody else should focus on their own jobs.

I have to agree here too. :)
Also, I'm sorry if my post sounded a bit dry, but it seemed by your post like you weren't too familiar with cmsms either.

I am very familiar with CMSMS having used it for a number of sites over the years. This individual is the first potential client who has persistently questioned CMSMS, comparing it with Wordpress and doubting whether it can do the same job.

I now think it is all a trick by an inveterate timewaster. I await his next email!!!

Thanks for all your support.

Martin
