[Solved]Modules/Plugins dont function after Fasthost upgrade

Post by AdamOwen123 »

Hi, this is my first ever post on here so apoloiges if i have not fully followed the rules.

I have today upgraded my hosting package with Fasthosts which i was informed wouldnt produce any problems however after the upgrade i got quite a few problems with modules and plugins.

i get this message on quite a few modules

--Add Me - module:FileManager string:friendlyname--, --Add Me - module:Bookmarks string:friendlyname--, --Add Me - module:News string:news--, --Add Me -

Has anyone experienced this before, if yes can you inform me of what haas happened and how it can be fixed?

Many thanks

Adam

Hi Adam,

Welcome to this forum.

Can you tell us which CMSms version you use? Is that a fresh install or an upgrade from which version?

The messages you get usually appear when the language files are not complete or outdated. Seems to me that the language that is set doesn't have any files at all. You could try to set the language to English in the admin menu My Preferences -> User Preferences. Does that help?

Hello, my apologies i did see this in the rules, it is CMS Made Simple 1.2.2 "Holetown",

I have been in to the settings and the language is set to english, it looks like when fasthost moved the platform the modules have corrupt or uninstalled is this possible?

Current version is 1.10.1

The version you use dates from december 2007 :o

The only way is to upgrade to latest version. Your host probably updated the php version.

Check "Recommended Upgrade Procedure" in this post: http://forum.cmsmadesimple.org/viewtopi ... =1&t=57370
and the general upgrade procedure here: http://wiki.cmsmadesimple.org/index.php ... /Upgrading

Hi, thanks for your thoughts on this, do you think the upgrade will really resolve this? Will all the modules installed on the current version function on the upgraded version 1.10.1?

I havent actually performed an upgrade before, i am not an expert web developer, i only have a go here and there, so a bit concerned as i dont want to make things worse?

Thanks for your time again!

Adam.

No guarantees on that one, but it's the only way...
Your old version is not supported anymore. Please do not ask us to look 4 years back in time ;)

Good question. Which modules do you use?

What modules do you use?

You will need to do an incremental update, as you can not update straight from your version to 1.10.1

Can you make a copy / test install to tinker with? I would definitely not do such a major update without making a bulletproof backup / copy, if it is a site you are not prepared to loose.

The mudules that are used at present are as follows:

File manager version 0.3.0b1

Module manager version 1.1.4

News version 2.6.1

Menu manager 1.5

Form builder 0.3

Search 1.4.1

Thememanager 1.0.8

TinyMCE 2.2.6

And one or two others, which we dont think are used any more.

Have a backup of the site, still need a backup of database.

Happy to perform incremental upgrade, but would appreciate it if any one could offer guidance?

Someone that has been around much longer that me would need to reply here, to say which incremental versions are compatible. I think you need to be above 1.7 to update to 1.10

First question is if the core still works after your host updates. Can you run the Admin panel and disable the modules that do not work?

As far as I see, these two are the only ones of your modules that have their own content:
News version 2.6.1 (now at 2.12.3)
Form builder 0.3 (now at 0.7.1)

Would it be a disaster if you loose these? Could you at worst rebuild the content?

These do not have any content to worry about, only perhaps some configuration:
File manager version 0.3.0b1
Module manager version 1.1.4
Menu manager 1.5
Search 1.4.1
Thememanager 1.0.8
TinyMCE 2.2.6

TinyMCE has recently been replaced by MicroTiny....

Hello, thanks for your reply, yes i can get in to the admin control panel, however when looking at the modules, the status says that the modules are installed and cannot be removed, but in the actions are it does give the options change permissions or remove.

I am happy to have a go at the upgrade, but am a bit clueless as i have never performed and upgrade before.

are there any notes anywhere to walk me through the process?

This is a rights issue for the web server. The web server is a "user" which has been assigned rights to the files and they are not enough to un-install the moudles.

If you have access via FTP or some web file manager you can should be able to change those rights.

The install process. There is a readme file in the download package.

The short version:

- Get the version you want, unpack and upload all the files to the server, overwriting your old files.

- with your browser, go to http://<yourdomain>/install/upgrade.php
That will take you through the upgrade process and is, with luck, just clicking OK / proceed a few times.

- Afterwards, delete the install directory. It should not be left, for security reasons.

- Update modules as you go along. Sorry, I have no info on version compatibility.

Good luck!

Hi Janaf,

Thanks for your comments, greatly apprecaited.

I will be trying the upgrade today, i have downloaded CMSMS versions:

1.5.4 full
1.9.1 full
1.9.4.3 full
1.10.1 full

I hope that installing each individual upgrade will get our website working. i understand that i will have to upgrade the modules also, i will have to download these as i go and see how it works out.

Thanks

Hi,

Started the upgrade process, does anyone know why i'm getting the below message?

Database Connection Failed
Error: Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock' (2) (2002)
Function Performed: CONNECT
Host/DB: localhost/cms
Database Type: mysql

I have checked the config.php file and the IP, username and password are all ok?

If the connection parameters where the same for all, they would not be needed at all :-)

So without knowing what your host requires, it is impossible to say what your settings should be. It is also possible that the CMSMS syntax hanged at some point :-|

Do you get that message when you start the upgrade script? This the basic config file I have looks like this;

Code: Select all

$config['db_hostname'] = 'localhost';
$config['db_username'] = 'xxx';
$config['db_password'] = 'xxx';
$config['db_name'] = 'xxx';
$config['db_prefix'] = 'xxx_';
$config['db_port'] = 0;
$config['dbms'] = 'mysql';
$config['root_url'] = 'http://<mydomain>';
$config['timezone'] = '<mytimerzone>';
$config['default_encoding'] = 'utf-8';

Hello,

Thanks, i got this one sorted it was the DB name.

Now i seem to have an even worse problem, i have now upgraded to the verison 1.10.1 and i cannot get to the /install/upgrade.php

when i view my site it says "Site down for maintenance" it also says this at the admin page so i cannot even get in to the backend?

Why would this happen?
