As this forum is getting bigger and bigger we cant really follow on all conversations. Thats why we have to set some rules on the forum.

1) DO A SEARCH, most of the questions have already been answered multiple times.

2) Use a descriptive subject in your posts. (do you see the connection with number 1?)

3) After your problem is solved add [Solved] in the subject
[added] If you are the originator of the topic, you can click on the 'modify' button on the first post in the topic.  This will provide a form which allows you to edit the subject, and even the content... please add [Solved] to the beginning of the subject, once your topic has been resolved, and click 'Save'

4) Carefully choose the forum you are posting into (uh, strange again there is a connection with number 1)
[edit] the 'Official Boards' are for topics that directly and specifically relate to CMS Made Simple Core, and only the Core (not any addons or third party applications).  Attempts have been made to give a description of each board, do your best to find the correct place to post your question.

All posts in the official and community section must be in english.  There are other forums for posts in different languages.  Pick your forum carefully.

However, all posts must be related to CMS Made Simple in some way, even on the 'Unofficial' Boards.  Talking about the federal election or the latest NHL playoff game is a sure way to get your post deleted.

5) Give enough information of your problem (omg, all of these are connected to number 1)
[edit] If you can't spend the time to research and explain your problem and it's circumstances, why should we bother to spend the time to reply to it.

If the first thing we have to do in a post is ask a question like 'what version of CMS Made Simple', 'what version of PHP, etc, etc' then it means you haven't explained or researched the problem well enough.

6) more to come...

10) And be nice to others and others will be nice to you.

For layout (CSS and HTML) questions you can get help from other sources also. We highly recommend that everybody with CSS and HTML problems first find a book on the subject or read on it from other sources.

This guideline is a work in progress and will evolve, please check back once in a while.

Here are the rules of forum submission:

1) All posts must be polite, topical, well researched and well explained.
(If you can't take the time to research your problem thoroughly, or to explain it well and politely,
why should we take the time to follow up on it?)
This is a very big rule.  Not following this simple rule wastes both your time and ours.
Repeated violations of this rule may result in all of your posts being deleted, or you being banned.

2) Topics that are not DIRECTLY an issue of  CMS Made Simple must be placed in one of the 'Community Boards' forums.
This is a big rule, topics can and will be moved or deleted if posted in the wrong section.
If you can reproduce the problem with a static HTML/CSS page, then IT IS NOT A CMS SPECIFIC PROBLEM
(maybe you haven't tried hard enough).

3) Repeated posts will be deleted (if we're in a good mood we'll delete all but one).

4) YELLING is impolite and refers to rule #1

5) Read the sticky topics on the top of each forum before submitting

6) referring to rule #5... if the topic has changed since you last posted, re-read the sticky topic

7) Absolutely no commercial advertising in the forums.  If you would like to arrange advertising on
www.cmsmadesimple.org or on the forums, contact Ted for advertising rates.

8) Only one topic per post.  This helps people who are searching for things to find them quickly and easily

9) Do not re-open solved threads.

Topics not meeting these rules can, and will be edited or deleted.  We will also delete or edit any posts that say things like 'HELP ME I HAVE A DEADLINE AND THE THING DOESN"T WORK'  or THIS SYSTEM SUX or anything at all that offends our delicate sensibilities.

if your post disapears, this could explain what happened.

Another rule that I need to require is:

Please input only one question per post.  Don't include a whole host of potentially unrelated questions in one post.

If you have a bunch of related questions it may be better to wait for a good answer on the first before posting the second.

If you post a bunch of unrelated questions in one topic well, you never know who is going to answer, how, or how topical the answers will be.

And.... well, if you posted wrong, maybe all of your questions won't be deleted.

If you violate these guidelines we will attempt to remind you of them, particularly if you are a new user, however
if you are not a new user to CMSMade Simple, or have been reminded on one or more occasions,  breaking the rules  can and will result in any of the following:

a) Having your post moved to the wasteland
b) Your post and question may be deleted.
c) You may be banned from the site entirely

Keep in mind, this is not a democracy:  We don't have to take a vote as to how things operate here, or wether we should delete or ban people.

This is not a 'free-space' for you to discuss whatever you want, or have people answer whatever questions you want, to solve whatever problems you may be having with 'your clients website', and to get answers for free.

Somebody actually pays real money for this web space, in an attempt for the CMS Made Simple community to discuss CMSMS, and to resolve CMSMS related problems.  You must follow by this persons rules.  If you don't like them.  Leave.
