When I try and upgrade I am having trouble - I can upgrade to 1.9.4.3 but after that it breaks - as soon as I try and go to 10.x I run install/upgrade.php and it just freezes on step6 (the last step I beleive). if I rerun upgrade it freezes at the same place.
then If I go to the website, it will not load at all.

I have also tried a brand new install, then importing my database and then upgrading the DB.

This works to a point but I cannot get a navigation bar to work at all.

I would be greatful if someone could tell me which option (fresh install or upgrade) would be the best route, and also how I can troubleshoot further...??

Many thanks in advance!

Once you get to 1.9.4.3 look in extensions > module manager and upgrade all modules then try upgrading to 1.10.3...

If modules don't show up make sure the {tag} is correct...

Thanks for the quick reply.

I am nearly there now - I discovered captcha and self registration modules needed upgrading.

Glossary and skeleton module I uninstalled as they seem out dated.

Now the upgrade went through successfully, everything works except when I goto "modules" in the backend, the page will not display at all.

I will start disabling modules again to see if somethings causing it to break.

The site is running on CentOS with PHP Version 5.2.13.

Just checked error logs and I am getting this:

Code:
ERROR DETECTED: Call to protected Smarty_CMS::__construct() from invalid context at /realpathtoadmin/listmodules.php:51

However, I have just realised a possible mistake - I have a custom named admin DIR, but when I uploaded files for latest version, I did not rename the admin DIR. Im just copying the newer files into my admin dir. Ill see if that fixes and post back results...
