[Media Module] Managing documents/files

Not sure where to ask this so I'll take my chances here.

I am looking for a module to manage document/files and links. It's for a section of a website that shows some categories and where you can add files to that category.

I've tried to MCLibrary module, which installs fine, but the module won't allow me to add fields. Guess some bug. The module is discontinued so no luck there. Same result with the Articles module. No luck there.

Any tips? Their basic functionality is all I need. Just add a category, custom fields under that category and that's it.

Did you look at Uploads module?

Well all work is done in the admin interface. So I had a look at it but I wont use it in the front end. I used the ListIt module instead now to look how that goes.
