The place to talk about things that are related to CMS Made simple, but don't fit anywhere else.

Can you truly password protect a file with CMSMS?

Post by michaywood »

I am working on a site that has a lot of important documents that need to be password protected. From my understanding, you can restrict page in CMSMS and this would hide the links to the files, but if someone has the link (i.e. ;http://awesomesite.com/files/document.pdf) they could access and download the file, right?

Is there a way using CMSMS that pages and files could be protected?

FEU + Uploads.

FEU can protect pages, Uploads can protect, and obfuscate URLS to files.

cool! doing a fresh install to test. So FEU + Uploads actually makes it to where if someone not logged in goes to ;http://awesomesite.com/files/document.pdf it spits an error page? Thanks!

I said FEU + uploads will obfuscate URLS to files, and control access to those obfuscated URLS.

If you truly want to protect files you place on your webserver you have to do that with .htaccess
