Better Module Documentation In The Forge
Re: Better Module Documentation In The Forge
Hmmm, maybe a good time to expand the dev team? Bring someone(s) in as a "trainee", someone(s) who has/have earned the respect of the dev team via their work on 3rd-party modules and/or the forum. With the right person, it couldn't take THAT much time to explain to them how the Forge works, and then assign them to develop a plan for revising the Forge. They then collect input/ideas from the community and from the dev team and they draft a plan, which is then approved by the dev team so that work can begin.
Re: Better Module Documentation In The Forge
The forge's code is up on github. I'd love for someone to fork the repo and start making the additions and fixes that we need. There is a list of gems that need to be installed in order for it to work right in the root directory there. If someone needs a dump of the database, I can scrub one and give it to you. This repository is the one I deploy from for our production site, so it's the absolute latest code.
We need all the help we can get, and I'm trying to find ways to make the barriers to entry lower without giving up total control. Github is going to do that for us.
Please, have at it. If you have any questions, let me know. If you commit some stuff for me to look at, do a pull request and I'll do it. Unfortunately, I don't get to read the forum as often as i like, so i miss these kinds of threads of people asking to help. Let me know what you need and I'll make it happen! It's the one thing I still have the time to do...

It's all about usability ;=(
This is what happens when "normal user" visits site. He/she get lost right at the start.

CMSMS is great but something has to be done with these stale files and other confusing pages.
I understand people don't have time to work on everything but should not at least main features link lead to something up-to-date?

This is why technical writers can make a decent living (chaching). That smarty.net site seemed pretty comprehensive. Did you find it lacking something?

Re: Better Module Documentation In The Forge
So, version 1.9.3. and this comes up:
.
It's just these kind of things that prevent CMSMS to be #1 cms.
Yea, I know it's easy to remove but still...
What is this? If I remember correctly this didn't come up with previous versions (using cmsms somewhat regularly from 1.Warning! Please removed the modules/FileManager/postlet directory completely, as this has been obsolete for many, many versions.

Re: Better Module Documentation In The Forge
From which version did you upgrade, I guess this was a very old one, since that folder was removed ages ago.
The fact that you get a message which asks you to remove a folder, that what's keeping CMSMS from hitting the number one spot?!?
Seriously?
