I wanted to tell you about a problem I had during installation and waisted a lot of time being to stupid to solve on my own and not finding the right place of help.
So I wanted to build a developing local platform to start experimenting with cmsms on my macbook which comes packed with newbie friendly preinstalled apache and php. Plus I did a no-brain package installation of mysql from a .dmg file which is provided on the official mysql site for download.Basically everything worked fine until the Installation wizard hangs upon connecting to my database.

The problem was: cmsms looks for the 'mysql.sock' in '/var/mysql/' or '/private/var/mysql' , I don't know exactly,
but my mysql installation put it to '/private/tmp/'

So putting a link to the sock in the path '/var/mysql/' actually solved my problem with database connection.

I found the solution in the Joomla forum here:http://forum.joomla.org/viewtopic.php?p=1715785#p1715785

My guess is that this is a Mac specific problem, nevertheless I think you should put it in the troubleshooting FAQ somewhere around here:
http://wiki.cmsmadesimple.org/index.php/User_Handbook/Installation/Troubleshooting#Cannot_connect_to_database_at_step_4_of_installation

By the way I don't understand what this part should tell me and how it should help me solve a database problem. Detailed information on what steps cmsms does to connect would be better (in my case: where it looks for the 'mysql.sock')
Or perhaps provide a solution like phpMyAdmin which allows you to specify the path to your mysql sock during the installation process.
